There is nothing else you can do to your body that is as powerful as fasting.

Buddhist monks fast on the new moon and full moon of each calendar month.

Fasting is the ONLY intervention that has been shown to extend lifespan in animals!!

Fasting sharpens your senses and your brain.

A definition: “Hormesis” - The idea that a little stress or toxin can toughen you up.

Attempts to extract antioxidants from plants and then give them to us in concentrated form as a health supplement, have been unconvincing in long-term trials.

Going without food for even quite short periods of time switches on a number of ‘repair genes’ which can give long-term benefits.

Beware : Prolonged fasts are realistically unsustainable. You will also lose muscle, not just fat.

Walking is HUGE: It burns calories, it improves the mood and it helps retain your memory.

In fasting mice it has been discovered that stem cells can turn into nerve cells in the hippocampus.

Within a few weeks of starting your fasting regime, your anxiety should go down and mood up.

Alzheimer’s begins decades before symptoms show, so you need to do something NOW!!

If you have cancer, fast just before chemotherapy. Fasting protects normal but not cancer cells against high-dose chemotherapy.

Male or female, your waist should be less than half your height. My waist is 90cm. TOO MUCH!! Put the tape measure around your belly button and be honest.

Things to check:

(1) Cholesterol Score.

(2) IGF-1 (high levels later in life lead to accelerated ageing and cancer.)

(3) Fasting Glucose level.

Muesli or Porridge is great for breakfast. Buy some!

If you must have a dessert or something sweet go for a good quality ice cream!

Good Proteins:

Steamed white fish. Skinless chicken. Prawn. Nuts. Seeds. Beans. Lentils. Peas.

Have eggs on your fast days. It helps you keep full for longer.

Distract yourself on fast days with tea, walking, running. Have a carrot as a snack. Exercising on a fast day makes the body burn a greater percentage of fat.

Humans tend to mistake a whole range of emotions for hunger (angry, sad, happy).

Once you’ve reached your target weight (or just a shade below) then you can go to one day a week fasting in order to remain in a holding pattern.

BMI scores take no account of body type, age or ethnicity, so should be greeted with informed caution.

Wait before you eat. Try to resist 10/15 minutes and see if the hunger subsides.

Boiled potatoes good! Baked potatoes bad! Steamed broccoli great!

Strawberries, apples, pineapple, tangerines, cherry tomatoes, blueberries all good!!

Avoid raisins and dates on fast days.. Cashews are better and sunflower seeds. Coconut in any form. Low fat yoghurt.

Glass of white wine good! Beer bad!

Workout before breakfast : Exercise training in the fasted state is more effective than exercise in a fed state.

Invest in a tiered bamboo steamer. However COOKING certain veg is better : Carrots, spinach, mushrooms, asparagus, cabbage and peppers. Their cell structure is broken down without destroying vitamins on boiling, so you can absorb them better.

A teaspoon of olive oil may be used in cooking.

Avoid bread, potatoes and pasta. Instead eat vegetables, beans and cereals.
