'L' Plates in Spain

When you pass your driving test in Spain, you have to stick a green 'L' plate in the back window of the car. Actually it keeps falling off but nevermind that.

My partner passed her test earlier this year and so has an 'L' plate! I suppose the reason for having one is to warn other drivers that you might do something stupid. Well actually the only stupidity here is shown by (some) Spanish drivers. For them spotting an 'L' plate on the back of your car is a license to do one thing : OVERTAKE YOU AT ALL COSTS.

Even if you are going at the speed limit on a narrow twisty country lane, they are determined to achieve the overtake manoeuvre (had to look the spelling up for that word - go on, close your eyes and try to spell it).

It's like they are committing a sin if they don't overtake you. Maybe it's even the law.

The funny thing is that when I MYSELF am driving the car with the 'L' plate and even going considerably over the limit, they will still overtake me. I can be approaching a roundabout at 60kmph and they will get past me with just metres to spare, with grim determination.

This puts everyones life at risk. This was meant to be a funny post, but it's actually quite serious! Over and out.
