First off this is not a book about Housekeeping. It's rather a bizarre and ultimately disappointing novel about some women who I do not care a jot about.
I am slightly baffled as to why this book made it onto The Observer's Top 100 Novels of all time list and is considered "classic".
It's long winded, tiresome, uninteresting, DEPRESSING and the story seems without point and rather boring. I don't usually write rubbish reviews like this, but it's a disappointing book.
Some passages read well and start to draw you in, before boredom strikes again. Life is simply way too short to waste time reading books like these.
Read all of John Steinbeck's books. Now those are real classics!!
